Investment in renewables
A vague familiarity with “Investment in renewables” is no longer enough. This belongs with Energy and climate. You follow the transition, energy markets, renewables and shared resources. People are hired to decide, not just to name the topic. This AEES certification is for professionals, managers and leaders who want to frame a renewables project, judge a site risk and steer real output. No diploma is required. What is required is a working command of written French, and the will to show the subject on a real file, in a company, a public body or a partner organisation.
You are not joining a long degree. You take “Investment in renewables” seriously enough to use it, and seriously enough for someone else to read it on a file. Everything happens online, around a job you already have. You prepare if you need to, then you sit a professional assessment. The AEES Executive Certificate, if it is issued, is proof in your name, and it can be checked. It holds in a CV, a move or a cooperation. It is a short specialisation, issued by a higher-education institution. You see at once what you are buying: a targeted title, not a course catalogue.
Afterwards you can carry “Investment in renewables” into a team, a file or a new responsibility, and explain your choices to a manager, a funder or a partner institution. Others will see that you can frame a renewables project, judge a site risk and steer real output, including outside your own organisation. If you succeed, AEES issues an AEES Executive Certificate in your name, with a unique serial number that can be checked in the public register. The award stays in your workspace. It shows a professional judgement you have demonstrated, useful for a CV, a new post or work in common.

To prepare for the assessment
After purchase, a preparatory course is available: 6 written modules, without an instructor, at your own pace. You are not required to follow it before opening the assessment. Each module sets out the notions, a commented case, the points to keep and a FAQ. It covers Site, Model, Permit and Contract.
When you are ready, you enter the assessment: a file already open, incomplete facts, conflicting views. You move through successive decisions. This is not a full taught programme with pedagogical supervision.
Notions, objectives and concrete examples, organised progressively.
A commented professional situation to anchor the theory.
Frequent doubts, then questions to go further on your own.
- Module 1: Site Every successful renewables investment starts with a site that can produce energy reliably, be consented, be connected, and be built at a cost that the power price can carry. This module shows how to see a site with investor eyes. You will move from maps and public data to ground truth, from early enthusiasm to a documented risk view, and from a rough idea to a clear next step. You will learn to read wind and sun for what they truly are on site: variable, seasonal, shaped by local terrain, cloud and roughness. You will learn to see land, neighbors, wildlife, noise, glare and logistics as constraints that shape layout and cost. You will understand how grid capacity, curtailment and queues change the value of a location. You will also learn how early engagement with landowners and communities can reduce opposition and give time to improve the project.
- Module 2, Model: From resource to bankable cash flow for renewables investment In renewables, the model is the bridge between physics and money. It converts wind speed or solar irradiance into an hourly energy profile, applies losses and uncertainty, translates energy into revenue under real contracts, and proves that debt can be serviced. You will meet many models. Your value is to see through them. This module shows how to go from resource to gross energy, to net P50 and P90, to price and cash. You will learn what to trust, what to verify, and how to rebuild a simplified version fast. The aim is not a glossy spreadsheet. The aim is a file that you can defend.
- Module 3, Permit: Turning the administrative calendar into a managed financial risk Permitting is not an administrative afterthought. It drives when construction can start, when a PPA can be signed, when a project can first cash flow and whether lenders will commit. In renewables, the time value of money, seasonal survey windows, grid queues and third-party appeals all converge on the same variable: the calendar. In this module, you will treat permits as a portfolio of deadlines that must be sequenced, resourced and monitored against clear decision gates. You will build a permit register, define the critical path, and quantify date risk in financial terms. You will learn to translate uncertainty into buffers and choices: when to wait, when to redesign, when to escalate, and when to stop. You will also align your internal calendar to the expectations of authorities, grid operators and lenders. The goal is not to predict a perfect date but to hold a financially robust one.
- Module 4: Contract Revenue is the spine of a renewables investment. In most markets you either sell your power under a contract that fixes key risks, or you carry those risks and hedge them. This module shows how to choose and negotiate the right path, with a focus on power purchase agreements and merchant alternatives that can be financed. You will learn how a PPA or contract-for-difference creates predictability, where residual risks still sit, and how to align price, volume, and credit terms with your site’s actual production. If you elect a merchant route, you will see how to shape a hedge stack to control price, profile, and imbalance exposures.
- Module 5 · Works: Following Construction of Renewable Assets Construction is the point where your investment becomes physical. Designs turn into foundations, cables, turbines, and inverters. Every decision you take during works has a direct effect on output, reliability, and the date when revenue starts. This module gives you a clear way to see what is really happening, separate signals from noise, and act early. You will not replace the contractor or the engineer. You will know how to ask the right questions, read the evidence, and decide with confidence. Following works is not only a technical task. It is schedule control, quality control, health and safety, environmental protection, and commercial discipline, all at once. You will learn to use a few structured tools across disciplines: a robust interface matrix, a controlled baseline schedule, inspection and test plans, a live risk and change log, and a commissioning matrix. You will practice how to escalate issues, preserve contractual rights, and still keep the project moving.
- Module 6, Operations: Comparing Real Output to the Investment File At financial close, your investment file converts technical assumptions into cash flows. From commercial operation onward, the plant tells a different story every day. Your job in operations is to build a precise bridge between the two stories. That bridge starts with reliable metering, clear definitions of availability and losses, and a disciplined method to normalize for weather. It ends with choices about maintenance, contract remedies, and reforecasting. This module makes that bridge operational. You will learn how to reconstruct what the investment file expected month by month, clean and reconcile actual data, normalize for resource, separate controllable losses from external constraints, and translate kWh variances into revenue, covenant ratios, and decisions. The focus is practical. You will use the same definitions and methods that underpin industry standards for PV and wind performance and grid settlement.
