Centres organise assessments locally within the framework set by AEES; they do not themselves issue the award. They verify candidate identity, apply authorised adjustments, record incidents and transmit scripts or files according to the required timetable.
Before and during assessment
- papers, instructions and mark schemes are accessible only to authorised persons;
- candidate lists, attendance and assessment conditions are recorded;
- any delay, interruption, suspected malpractice or technical problem is reported.
Marking and decision
Marking follows the published criteria. Moderation compares a sample of work, application of the mark scheme and consistency of marks; any significant discrepancy must be resolved before confirmation. The board reviews outcomes and incidents, after which AEES confirms the award decision.
Breaches
Established malpractice may lead to cancellation of the assessment or session for the candidate, subject to the relevant reasoned decision. A breach by a centre may lead to corrective action, enhanced monitoring, suspension or withdrawal of approval. The person or institution concerned must be able to submit observations.
